While bean beetles are capable of flying, they rarely do. As a result, they are easy to handle and excellent feeder choices for reptiles and adult darts. When feeding bean beetles to reptiles or amphibians, they can be lightly dusted with a calcium and vitamin powder to enhance their nutritional value. Bean Beetle Feeder Insects
When removing beetles from stock cultures tap the containers lightly on the lab bench before removing the lid to prevent beetles from crawling out immediately. If the lid is left off for more than a minute or so, beetles will escape from the culture dishes. Because they are prolific breeders, it is recommended to dispose by freezing all contents in a sealed bag for at least two weeks to kill the beetles and any larvae or eggs. Finally, dispose of the unopened, frozen bag in the trash.
