Flightless Fruit Flies -Melanogaster
When removing flies from your cultures, tap the containers lightly on the lab bench before removing the lid to prevent beetles from crawling out immediately. If the lid is left off for more than a minute or so, your flies will escape from the culture dishes. Because they are prolific breeders, it is recommended to dispose by freezing all contents in a sealed bag for at least two weeks to kill the beetles and any larvae or eggs. Finally, dispose of the unopened, frozen bag in the trash.
